Russel Patterson's work: cartoonist, designer helped promoting the flappers

Flapper in the 1920s was a term applied to a "new breed" of young Western women who wore short skirts, bobbed their hair, listened to jazz, and flaunted their disdain for what was then considered acceptable behavior. Flappers were seen as brash for wearing excessive makeup, drinking, treating sex in a casual manner, smoking, driving automobiles and otherwise flouting social and sexual norms.[1]
Flappers had their origins in the period of Liberalism, social and political turbulence and increased transatlantic cultural exchange that followed the end of World War I, as well as the export of American jazz culture to Europe.

There is more description at the Wikipedia article and it seems to me I would be a candidate to be a flapper with some restrictions. What about you?

Two Bauhaus icons: Wassily and Barcelona chairs

At the post I showed my house at virtual world I'm at the garden at the gathering place. There are two Barcelona chairs that is a furniture that the architect Mies van der Rohe has designed in 1929 for the Barcelona Pavillion that was also one of his creations. This chair became a worldwide icon and is sold in many countries. The Wassily chair was designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925 for the painter Wassily Kandinsky that was a teacher at Bauhaus where der Rohem and Breuer were also working. It's amazing how innovative and futuristic these creations are and it is hard to classify them as a classic, but that is what they are. I am sat at a chair inspired in the Bubble chair designed by Eero Aarnio in 1968 but I will talk about this one in another post. I realized that I didn't write anything about Bauhaus and it is about time. I have a Barcelona chair in my real house. That is why I did chose it.

Moebius strip at Buenos Aires

An interactive installation for the Libery Science Center (NJ) designed to show breaking news about science to visitors in the museum. a continuous moebius strip of LEDs & projection screens allows visitors to view streaming information from all sides of the atrium. plexi ribs supporting the LED’s & translucent plexi projection surfaces span between the edge rails. visitors can dynamically select topics or upload information from various points along the mezanine handrails.

London Underground map's beauty

Designed by Harry Beck the London Underground Map has it's beauty . It has already been studied by some scholars and Rudolf Arnheim in his "Art and Visual Perception" claims that it's harmony pleases the eyes. He says that by withdrawing geographic details and other informations is the best possible image of what is needed to inform. He says lots of things. Just look. If you are a British citizen try to forget it's utility. Perhaps it will be easier if you look at it upside down. Harry Beck worked many years to find this last version in 1960.
