Best of World Cup 2014: Algeria squad to donate World Cup bonus to Palestine
![]() |
| Algeria team arriving home |
"Islam Slimani, who scored a crucial header against Russia to ensure Algeria’s first ever qualification to the World Cup knock-out stage, said: “They need it more than us,” referring to those in the Palestinian city, according to journalist Waleed Abu Nada."
This is until the moment the best statement of this world cup and FIFA must not intervene. FIFA must not accuse the squad for bringing politics to sports.
Shut up FIFA and enjoy the money you did. FIFA turned the World Cup into a joke.
Gestures like this that give us hope.
Algeria was the only Arab country playing in the Brazil 2014 FIFA World Cup.

Dr. Dahlia Wasfi's speech "No Justice, No Peace"
Dahlia Wasfi is an Iraqi-American physician and peace activist. Born inn 1971 in New York to a Jewish-American mother and Muslim Iraqi father, Dr. Wasfi spent part of her early childhood living in Iraq.
Visit her site here.
"We have an obligation to every last victim of this illegal aggression because all of this carnage has been done in our name. Since World War II, 90% of the casualties of war are unarmed civilians. 1/3 of them children. Our victims have done nothing to us. From Palestine to Afghanistan to Iraq to Somalia to wherever our next target may be, their murders are not collateral damage, they are the nature of modern warfare. They don't hate us because of our freedoms. They hate us because every day we are funding and committing crimes against humanity. The so-called "war on terror" is a cover for our military aggression to gain control of the resources of western Asia.
This is sending the poor of this country to kill the poor of those Muslim countries. This is trading blood for oil. This is genocide, and to most of the world, we are the terrorists. In these times, remaining silent on our responsibility to the world and its future is criminal. And in light of our complicity in the supreme crimes against humanity in Iraq and Afghanistan, and ongoing violations of the U.N. Charter in International Law, how dare any American criticize the actions of legitimate resistance to illegal occupation.
Our so-called enemies in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, our other colonies around the world, and our inner cities here at home, are struggling against the oppressive hand of empire, demanding respect for their humanity. They are labeled insurgents or terrorists for resisting rape and pillage by the white establishment, but they are our brothers and sisters in the struggle for justice. The civilians at the other end of our weapons don't have a choice, but American soldiers have choices, and while there may have been some doubt 5 years ago, today we know the truth. Our soldiers don't sacrifice for duty-honor-country, they sacrifice for Kellogg Brown & Root.
They don't fight for America, they fight for their lives and their buddies beside them, because we put them in a war zone. They're not defending our freedoms, they're laying the foundation for 14 permanent military bases to defend the freedoms of Exxon Mobil and British Petroleum.
They're not establishing democracy, they're establishing the basis for an economic occupation to continue after the military occupation has ended. Iraqi society today, thanks to American "help" is defined by house raids, death squads, check-points, detentions, curfews, blood in the streets, and constant violence. We must dare to speak out in support of the Iraqi people, who resist and endure the horrific existence we brought upon them through our bloodthirsty imperial crusade. We must dare to speak out in support of those American war-resisters, the real military heroes, who uphold their oath to defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, including those terrorist cells in Washington DC more commonly known as the Legislative, Executive & Judicial branches.
"If There Is No Struggle, There Is No Progress"
Frederick Douglass said
"Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet deprecate agitation, are people who want crops without ploughinging the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, and it may be both ... but it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will."
Every one of us, every one of us must keep demanding, keep fighting, keep thundering, keep plowing, keep speaking, keep struggling until justice is served. NO justice, NO peace."
Real video of Dr. Dahlia Wasfi speech on 2012.
There is a version that uses the speech showing shocking images but as the person, or organization who used the speech and edited the images didn't sign I don't consider it a reliable source.
If we are fighting unethical people we have to be very careful and not jump into the same mud.

Ellen Degeneres, me and Nancy: "Me and Now" at Beacon Theater
No. I'm not coming out, I like men, but she is a role-model for me. I would love to make people laugh and when I was a child I did a lot of things to myself that I would love to see now cause they were funny, at least for me.
I still do these perfomances for myself. I do faces at the mirror that are so strange and I have a lot of fun and also talk to myself inventing situations and stuffs.
I have a lot of fun doing these scenes.
Anyway... I'm not Ellen and whenever I see her I laugh and when it finishes I usually try to do some of the things she did. I don't dare to watch at myself at the mirror but I have a lot of fun doing it.
I wanted to share this with you, took some one-minute-shots and choose this one although the others are also great.
I can't be at the computer due to back problems I can read or watch TV. I choose to watch TV because I find good stuffs.
Maybe I have a gift because usually people say: "Turn off your TV or you'll become stupid or will be brainwashed and you'll this or that. TV is evil."
Strangely enough I found this show and also two good movies.
One of them is Sean Penn at "Fair Game" telling the Valerie Plame's story. Sean's character even exhorts people to see the truth and take their responsability on what happens in US politics. Numerous critics... go here for instance.
But I don't know what is happening to these actors nowadays. They accept to do movies without researching and in the end it's always disappointing. The true story was not well reported as you can find in many sites.
What is going on Sean Penn? What about the other actors and actresses that are doing war propaganda?
Keep your TV on but be critical and search!
The other movie...I'll talk about it at another time cause I have to get out of the computer.
You can watch more Ellen at Youtube or buy the video, wait till they broadcast at the TV again.
shot these to choose one (click to enlarge)
Nancy? Where is Nancy? Watch the video. Now I'm gonna rehearse tripping at my living room...
Ok... This is the entire story in a very good video.

Peter Gabriel on couple's secret world
"Sometimes you can see a couple so close together that it's get hard to distinguish which one is which and bits of them disappear into a space that forms between them.
This is what is identified as the secret world."

9/11 anniversary: Philippe Petit the first to attack the WTC twin towers

Many times when we look up we see magic and in 8/7/1974 Philippe Petit amazed the world by crossing between the twin towers eight times. He danced, he smiled at the cop that wanted to arrest him and spent 45 minutes walking on the wire.
At the end of the spectacle Philippe was arrested and sent to a psychiatric evaluation and finally released.
For the tenth anniversary of 9/11 daring to dream, to stand up for ideals, to regain the power of not fearing is what would help this world being wonderful again.
"What really touchs me is when people come to me and say they are inspired. Because it is something we need in life, we need to be inspired."
"To not go to where you believe... then where will you go? Where people tell you to go?
"I did my homework for months and months and months, for actualy eight months on location after having done months of study of the towers as they have been build.
That is what to do to rob a bank except I didn't want to rob anything
I wanted to give a beautiful gift of my high wire walk."
"Death is very close."
"We live in a world where our senses are dulled by so many images, where we surrender ourselves to little robots. I hate my century, I hate what's going on around me, so I don't participate. I don't have a laptop, I don't have a cellphone, I can`t send an email. I'm an imbecile! But I say that with pride."
Philippe Petit
"Several minutes later these guys came to arrest us and the first thing they said to Philippe and myself was: "where is your id?", "where is your id?". Philippe's english wasn't as good in those days and he thought they were saying: "What is your idea?"

Philippe's previous illegal coups were high-wiring between the two spires of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris (in the middle of a mass), and between the giant northern pylons of Sydney Harbour Bridge which is what the video shows.

“I am Ashamed to be a Participant of the Match in Chechnya” Raí Brazilian Football Player
In a world where ethics and measuring consequences for one's actions is fundamental a Brazilian football player give an incredible examples of dignity, integrity and concern with human beings. I just came across with this letter Raí left at his site in 23 March, 2011.
It is about a game he attended in Chechnya that can be seen as a practical joke played by Chechen leaders. Here is the translation of the letter and I want to thank Raí for not only his commitment to Brazilian's children but also for his convictions that makes him an activist of humans rights and also as a man that can be an idol and a role-model as an athlete and someone who fights for his beliefs.
“Chechnya: The Day that I was Betrayed”
“Just over a month ago, I received an invitation from intermediaries to be a participant in a game in the Russian Federation, the country that will host the 2018 World Championship. The event would be for the inauguration of a new stadium and the match would be against a local team which is lead by Ruud Gullit.
I was on a vacation with my partner who is responsible for conducting these negotiations, and I accepted the proposal if everything was confirmed and the payment was made 10 days before travel. I confess that there was a lack of information and I behaved with recklessness to confirm everything. My naive thought was this: I had attended similar things in Europe before, and this time it would be in Russia. I would meet with old friends and also earn a quick buck. But, frankly, my decision was not motivated by financial gain.
What I earned didn’t change anything in my economic situation and is the equivalent to what I charge for a two hours lecture in São Paulo and much less than what I donate frequently to human rights projects. Only a few days before our travel, I was notified that the location of the match had changed; it would now be in Chechnya. This news made me feel strange because I knew about a hideous war was taking place there between Chechenian separatits and the Russian army.
However recent reports were saying that the situation had calmed down for a certain period of time. I tried to inform myself about the president of that republic but maybe I didn't search well enough. I decided to go to honor a commitment I did. What happened was I became part of something that I most condemn in my life. I attended an event that was blatantly political and populist, and without knowing the possible consequences and intentions.
I'm sure that what is happening in the Arabic world demonstrates that a soccer game and some of it's idols will not change ideological convictions but the outcome of this choice is in me. I felt terrible because I act inconsequently and didn't take the criteria I usually do. When after the game I realized what was really at stake I felt like hiding of everything and everybody, me included. Until our arrival in Grozny, the Chechen capital, everything was a great joy, because friends were reunited. Immediately, memories of everything that came to pass in the big victories returned.
But the fact is that there was a military climate in Grozny: giant photos of men who are in power are all around and very few people are seen on the streets. Something seemed very strange to me. Only later I learned from a Russian interpreter that 98% of the city was destroyed during the war. I imagined the memories of people who saw those battles and still live there. I also heard that some NGOs are accusing the current head of the republic of human rights violations. Based on what I saw there, it would not surprises me.
We arrived in Grozny in the beginning of the afternoon. We ate and went to the theater in one of the reconstructed buildings, for a presentation of traditional dances and music, also with an international attraction. We were received very kindly by all. It was the only moment that I got close to the population that seemed fine. Women was the vast majority at the audience because it was 8 March, international women's day and many of them had their mobiles filming everything. I can even say that it was a pleasant moment and I could feel, even if for a few moments, the human part of that city that tries to build itself again.
We stood in a hotel in reasonable conditions practically in the statium of the home team that has many Brazilian football players. The statium was sold out and 15.000 people sang all the time. Just hours before the game, we learned that the president, Kadyrov and his companions would be our opponents. The only good news was the duration of the game: only two halves of 25 minutes each.
The officers asked us "not" to play with full force, it was like a "joke". Even thou Gullit and Mattaus were at the opponent team, there was no condition whatsoever for a true game. Besides the president there were others that have never been a footballer athlete. It was like playing in the backyard, but the audience seemed happy. Score aside, I took two important lessons from this stupidity (that is how I felt): I will closely follow the political process in Russia and Chechnya, and will much more alert to these possible lapses of evaluation. I can say that this experience was at least an important learning experience. I write this letter the same way and with the same intensity that I wanted to hide after the event, I need to expose myself and express my shame." Raí Souza Vieira de Oliveira
Update: Someone left a comment and with a link for this site about Chechnya. I added the label Anna Politkovskaya to this post. She was a great human being and very concerned with Chechnya. May her R.I.P. There is a video-documentary at this site about her with captions in English.

Monument to peace by Richard Bartle

Richard Bartle has been dedicating his art to promote peace and raising political issues with great artistic value.
A punk when teenager who used to gather with his friends at Peace Gardens, Sheffield city, UK, he did seven life-size sculptures made of stain using a Picasso's work.
They are perched on the chimney of Bar Ha!Ha! on St Paul’s Parade next to the Peace Gardens.
"We live in a society where the media seem to perpetuate a feeling of nihilism on behalf of governments and big business as method of keeping us all in a state of fear and depression, it seems also that those who lobby against these power groups are equally as guilty of this. In my work I refuse this state of nihilism – I look for hope in all situations, and long for a world where dialogue triumphs over violence and the focus of life shifts from the negative to positive.”
More about this work here. I loved the way he put the media creating the nihilist sentiment. If you are following the news today you know how far the world is from peace.
Peace became a word that doesn't inspires the same feelings it did in the 60ies and 70ies.
This is very strange.

Hold it! It's wrong. IT IS WRONG! IT'S ALL WRONG!
Usually I don't talk explicitly about politics. I'll make an exception just to say that there are lots of things going wrong in this world and it's about time to name them and fight for our reasons. We have to take care of this girl of the picture. She deserves a better world. Oops! Again not explicit. But I'm sure you got it. We need "conspiracies of goodwill" an expression I got from Charles Medawar expanding it's borders to all we can do to change this strange world we live. We have a lot of work! First step: not fear and be confident. "They" hate when we are happy and at peace. Listen to the song and feel fine cause when happy we have more energy to fight. We'll find again our faithful song! -(pay attention at 2.52 when Mick Hucknall makes a great statement) - I did chose this song because the lyrics is great, Mick's voice is powerful and it's a way to show that we can fight in an enthusiastic, peaceful and happy way without losing the credibility and strength. This girl deserves! Let's do it so that she get out of this roof.
Your Mirror
Simply Red
I've got to stand up for myself
This society don't care about nobody else
I've got to be strong
Even if I know that this feeling is wrong
I've got to not care
Even if I know that this world is meant to
Share
Wait a minute! This is wrong
Even the birds still sing their faithful song
And your beauty lies within you
Look in the mirror baby
Look in the mirror baby
What you gonna do when your friends have
Gone away
And deserted you
You'll have to be strong
24 hours can seem so long
You're taught to not care
And then not realise this world is meant to
Share
Wait a minute. It's wrong
Even the birds still sing their faithful song
And your beauty lies within you
Look in the mirror baby
Look in the mirror baby
We've got to stand up for ourselves
Even if a leader so cold wants to glory himself
We've got to be strong
Even if our reasons seem wrong
We've got to not care
Even if the world that we know may not even
Be here
Hold it! It's wrong
Even the birds still sing their faithful song
And your beauty lies within you
Look in the mirror baby
Look in the mirror baby.

Lybia: Stop massacring your own people
This is what I concluded following analysis by the mainstream media:
I just listened to Muammar Gaddafi's speech. Although he looks like a caricature of a dictator his intentions are real. He wants a bloodshed in the name of his own power. What is being done at Libya are crimes against humanity and it has to stop, but it has to stop now. Some Lybians are fleeing their country fearing more violence while others stay and keep protesting. "NO ONE IS FREE WHEN OTHERS ARE OPPRESSED" Libya for Libyans! NATO STOP BOMBING LIBYA
This is the truth: Please click at this to see what is really happening in Libya and I am sorry for the mistake. This was the first time I saw him speaking and everything was edited to portray him as the monster as they always did. Update: 8/22 2011 Today Qaddafi's compound was conquered after six months of instability after the invasion of Libya by NATO. Qaddafi was not there and his whereabouts is unknown and if what was being done by him were crimes against humanity what NATO did is considered the same. Libya for Libyans is still to conquer and it seems that it is not near even if Qaddafi is no longer the leader. Sad world!

February 15, 2003 protests against Iraq invasion put millions of people around the world at the streets. People don't want war, governments do.
It's amazing that for no reason other than profiting Iraq war is still killing innocents of both sides. Seven years of war.
Anti-war movements are still organizing protests but they are not being reported. People are more active than mainstream media want us to believe.

CIA and Wikipedia inspiring Art: The Color of all Flags of the World

Flags of the World">In his
Flags By Color project, Shahee Ilyas uses a list of countries generated by The World Factbook along with the world's national flag images fetched from Wikipedia to produce a series of charts that break down the color proportions for each flag. These proportions of color are then displayed in a single chart revealing the color proportions of all of the flags of the world combined. This project was generated entirely with script.
(Piechart of proportions of colours for all the flags combined.)
At the top right the little image is a link to CIA's The World Factbook. I think it is amazing to have the colors of all the flags of the world united. It should be used as an icon for uniting. It seems that globalization has more to do with disuniting.
Art is always what unites people. (click at the images to go to the project and watch the flags)
You can also look at this post to easily know the flag of each country.
Have a great weekend!
