I just discovered this painting and felt like sharing. For the moment my comment, one of those that will make the scholar and the art's critics hate me more and more, is;
"What a big dog! Bigger than the lad and the dwarf! Quite unrealistic."
I sure hope that's a tail hanging off the back of that pooch, or your comment, "What a big dog!" is right! Thanks for following my Lost in the Hive blog. Cheers!
Haha! I was at a dog show this summer and I stand 5'7" but felt nearly dwarfed and spooked when suddenly a huge Great Dane crept up behind me and I turned to find him nearly looking me in the eye.
Leazwell, Don't stare at the eye at the dog before he knows you. He has to smell you first to "know" you. If possible don't panic because they can smell fear and panic. Well, it seems they have humans in their hands... I said hands?... paws like this. lol

Is a bit out of proportion isn't it. I wonder what the artist was trying to convey?
Have a terrific day. :)
I don't think he had any specific hidden reason.
He just wanted to paint the dog and the rest is decoration.
lol
