Joseph Wright of Derby's Girl reading a letter by candlelight

The Joseph Wright Derby Gallery is closed until September because it is being refurbished.
It is the largest collection of the painter's works that embodies the beginning of the scientific era in the 18 century that is the birth of industrialization.
The girl reading by candlelight series shows not only his concern with chiaroscuro but also the psychological and narrative aspects of his work. The source of light is never revealed.
I will publish another of Wright's paintings.
The black and white reproductions are at The Scratch Board Tania's blog. I didn't find them anywhere else.
